Video: Product Demonstration Tour of 3D mmWave Imaging

8-minute Demo Tour, ThruWave 3D mmWave Imaging.

Have you ever wanted to see inside sealed boxes or closed totes as they move through your operation? Now you can with ThruWave.  Our human safe, 3D millimeter wave sensors can see through packaging like corrugated boxes and plastic, even when they're in motion at conveyor speeds up to 600 feet per minute.

Unlike traditional vision cameras that only see the outside of a box or tote, ThruWave sensors see-through containers and packaging which allows our software to automatically analyze what is inside.  Unlike existing x-ray systems, ThruWave's Millimeter Wave Systems are safe for continuous exposure by human workers.

BELOW: SUMMARY TRANSCRIPT BY TOPIC

(1:00)  Overview of mmWave imaging demonstrations in this video

Today we will show you how ThruWave 3Dmm wave imaging can see through materials and inside of sealed packaging on moving conveyors to identify item count, missing items, damaged items, foreign objects, and calculate fill fraction for cube utilization.

For demonstration purposes, we bought some cases of beer at a local store. You will see 3Dmm wave inspection for both sealed cardboard packages and inside of closed plastic totes. First, we will verify an ideal package. Here you can see a full case of 24 bottles of beer in a cardboard box and here is a full case of 24 bottles of beer inside a closed plastic tote.

(1:53 ) mmWave Imaging Demo: Detect Item Damage and Leaks

Our first demonstration will show how ThruWave can detect item damage and leaks. I have now created a leak that cannot be seen from the outside, preventing both camera systems and human workers from spotting errors in the production line. Now I will show you what ThruWave's 3D imaging can see.

As the box or tote moves down the production line, our millimeter wave sensors acquire a 3D image without any interruption to the conveyor system. We can see from the 3Dmm wave image that we can easily spot the leak.

Our image analytic software can automatically detect these problems with boxes or totes and divert them to be repackaged. Reports can also be passed to the WMS or ERP for quality assurance reporting. Leaks and damages can be dangerous and harmful to equipment. ThruWave's technology can automatically detect these issues without additional human labor or complicated mechanical systems.

(3:05) mmWave Imaging Demo: Detect Missing Items and Calculate Container Cube Utilization

Our next demonstration will show missing items and calculating container fill fraction for cube utilization. I will now remove two bottles from the full box. Now I will show you what ThruWave 3D imaging can see. As the box or tote moves down the production line, our millimeter wave sensors acquire a 3D image without any interruption to the conveyor system. We can see from the 3Dmm wave image that we can easily spot the missing items in both the cardboard case and the cardboard case held inside the closed plastic tote. Our image analytic software can automatically detect these problems with boxes or totes and divert them to be repackaged.

Reports can also be passed to the WMS or ERP for quality assurance reporting. By knowing your fill fraction and package level cube utilization, you can help your organization improve processes to streamline and optimize warehouse operations. You can save costs and reduce your carbon footprint through packaging efficiency. If you'd like to learn more, visit our website at thruwave.com. Now let's get back to Matt who will tell you how it all works.

(4:30) mmWave Imaging: How it Works & Deploying in Your Operations.

ThruWave sensors are an easy retrofit for existing conveyors or robotic material handling systems. ThruWave sensors are modular, you can stack them up in different combinations to image small or large objects. ThruWave sensors use an ordinary ethernet link to communicate with our software, which can run either on-prem or in the cloud. ThruWave software automatically analyzes images and extracts key process variables like item count, fill fraction, cube utilization or detected anomalies. We send this data to your existing warehouse execution system or warehouse management system.

5:20  mmWave Imaging Demo – Detect Foreign Objects

Sometimes foreign objects might accidentally end up in a container. The item could be valuable equipment such as a barcode scanner or a dangerous item such as this sharp box cutter. Now there are hidden foreign objects inside this tote which shouldn't be there. I will show you what ThruWave 3D Imaging can see. As the tote moves down the production line, our millimeter wave sensors acquire a 3D image without any interruption to the conveyor system. We can see from the 3Dmm wave image that we can easily spot the out of place items.

Our image analytic software can detect these problems with boxes and totes and divert them to be repackaged. Reports can also be passed to the WMS or ERP for quality assurance reporting. ThruWave enables effective quality assurance tools without the need for additional human labor or expensive and complicated systems. Our system looks easily through sealed packages or totes to audit the goods inside.

(6:35) Applications and benefits of using mmWave imaging

As you've seen, ThruWave's groundbreaking 3Dmm wave sensors make the invisible visible. You can see inside sealed boxes or closed totes as they move through your operation and ThruWave sensors are easy to install and human safe, unlike existing x-ray systems. ThruWave sensors and software let you reduce labor and human touch by eliminating the need to open boxes and totes to see what's inside. You can reduce packaging waste and carbon footprint by right-sizing packaging and you can increase utilization of ASRS systems by continuously measuring available space in totes.

ThruWave lets you improve inventory accuracy through in-process counting and improved safety and security by detecting leaks and foreign objects.

If you had the power to see inside of sealed boxes or totes, what would you do? Let us know.
